History of Outpost

The Outpost, established in 1993, offers a unique oceanfront experience in Eleuthera. Managed by Jim Jordan (+1 242-359-7472), we provide accommodation in rustic cabins and a main building with a large shared kitchen and dining room. Jim loves to share his knowledge of Eleuthera with his guests. Jim loves to host groups of students and specializes in organizing educational programs that include accommodation, food, and educational experiences.

The Outpost was the home of The Institute for Ecological Field Studies program “Wild Studies” for 20 years and hosted over 400 students annually during that time. The primary focus of the field program was ecoogical studies because of the coral reefs surrounding the property. However, the programs also included early history, geology, plant life, birds, and the interconnections between the islands, oceans, humans, plants and animals. Jim Jordan is currently looking for a partner to help market and run further educational programs as he is hoping to have more time to create art in his retirement.

In additional to hosting educational programs, Jim has hosted a variety of different types groups over the years including artists and people in recovery. He enjoyed hosting a movie crew and learning about the filming of Fool’s Gold with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. The Outpost was the location for the TV comedy This is Paradise and featured in the 1997 issue of Coastal Living. See filming done at the Outpost for Free on Tubi.
